Join NRM South and CRPA for a Coal Valley Farming Forecaster workshop focussed on planning for the dry season ahead. Farming Forecaster is a powerful drought decision support tool that provides graziers with a better insight into current conditions and impact on pasture availability over the upcoming season.

Date: Thursday 12 October

Time: 9:00am to 1:30pm (lunch provided)

Location: Wattlebanks Cafe, 27 Bridge St, Richmond, TAS

Session 1 (9am – 10.45am) – Introduction to Farming Forecaster:

  • How to use the tool – understanding the soil probe and seasonal forecast information
  • The seasonal outlook – key livestock and grazing considerations for the season ahead

Session 2 (11 – 1.30pm includes lunch) planning for the dry season ahead:

  • Assessing current feed availability
  • Using local data to undertake fodder budgets to assess risk
  • Using Stockplan software to assess the cost of feeding and inform de- and re-stocking decisions

Presenter: Phil Graham (Graham Advisory), livestock business advisor

Register to attend

This workshop will be followed with an additional session on Friday 13 October with Phil Graham, from 2-5pm at St Peters Pass (Shearer’s smoko room (next to shearing sheds) St Peter Pass Farm). This session is aimed at working individually or in a small group with members who want to focus on their own farm challenges and apply the Farming Forecaster data to solve your specific issues and create tailored plans using the Stockplan tool.

This will be a small group event, where producers can use the Stockplan tool to assess their current risk for their own farm. Stockplan helps you understanding the financial consequences of management options (sell, buy, agist, feed) before dry spells and in drought.

Register your attendance by email to Tim Ackroyd: tackroyd@nrmsouth.org.au.

Please bring laptop, stock numbers covering adults and young stock, what quantities of grain and hay you have on hand.
